Me
What has the digital technology added (or taken away)
to an art project in the first years of the 21st century?
What are its assumed affects or ultimate goals that
we may experience today?
An artist’s capability
and readiness to tirelessly reposition and combine
images, pictures, color and text within the weightless
memory space of a computer reassuring the obvious,
the unassuming liberty to create an image…while space
or the reality of the image is not simulated but substituted
by a multitude of possible parallel realities and
results. It seems this way art becomes democratic
both visually and formally.
The computer as the
base instrument of this art form is constantly expanding
our expectations and redefining the canvas as its
foundation.
We see exactly these elements in Ivana’s method of
using pop-culture with its wealth of information,
imagery and sounds…she uses everyday-esthetics, from
off, to “smuggle” in certain messages as
text fragments…to the observer, the message might
not be clear at first. With her combined techniques
of montage and collage and the additional
use of images and texts, Ivana offers us the substance
from which each viewer can create a mental image
or picture basedon his or her own experience, interests
and sensibilities.
In this interaction
of the artist and the ”machine”, her subjects become
symbols of famous names, buildings, poetry, art piece
fragments or various products. Ultimately, she offers
us the internet as the treasure chest of
situations, presentations, ideas, information or disinformation
and knowledge…-while the artist herself, like each
and every one of us is a consumer in everyday supply
and demand.
